In 2015, AUI began implementing Automated Meter Reading (AMR) technology. This change has eliminated many of the safety hazards facing meter readers while increasing data accuracy and collection reliability. What is AMR?
AMR is a method of using advanced communications technology to read meters remotely, reducing human errors and improving data accuracy. We will use these reading for calculating your gas usage; however, the dials will still be visible, so you can confirm the readings are accurate.
AMR also increases your privacy and convenience as it eliminates the need for a meter reader to enter your property each month to read the meter. Because AMR reduces meter reading costs, it helps us keep rates as low as possible.
Most importantly, AMR eliminates the need to personally visit each and every meter each month. Employee safety is AUI’s top Core Value, and is achieved by injury prevention. In 2013 and 2014, there were over 20 medical aid and first aid injuries sustained by AUI workers while trying to obtain meter readings on customers’ premises. The majority of these are attributable to encounters with aggressive animals. A reduction in the need to enter private yards or commercial facilities will reduce the opportunity for injury.
How often does AUI collect a meter reading?
Once every month.
What information is collected and transmitted by the ERT?
Only gas flow information is collected and transmitted. No personal, identifiable data is available to, stored on or transmitted by, the device.
